BACKPACKS AND DRY BAGS

WATERPROOF RUCKSACKS AND DAY SACKS

Exploration takes its toll on you and your equipment, it is a good test of both in fact. We have found that it pays to go for good quality, but in saying that you have to work within the budget that you have. Thankfully there are many options today that allow you to get good gear at a reasonable price, and for those that have deeper pockets the best is out there as well.
You cannot underestimate the advantage of waterproof devices and equipment, That is never more so than your backpack, years ago when we were exploring the Llanganatis of Ecuador this technology was not available, in the very wet environment everything had to be stored in plastic bags inside the rucksack and often became soaked, making the nights more miserable not to mention we were carrying heavy damp food and equipment.
When finally we were able to use the waterproof sacks in later endeavours what a difference it made, not only not having to worry about your belongings, but you get a makeshift float which can hang on to and help you cross rivers and lakes.
So that said these options a few of which are included in this guide have revolutionised the game.
There are many more manufacturers out there and the products are getting better as people realise the advantages.
Obviously the most important consideration is the size of bag that you need and what you wish to use it for.
